Childcare and Sunday School schedule – Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day

This Wednesday, Nov. 23rd most classes and ministry groups will not be meeting, therefore childcare is canceled in observance of the Thanksgiving holidays.

On Christmas Eve at the 5 pm Family Service, the Joyful JAM Club will present our musical "An Unplugged Christmas". We encourage all families to attend! Childcare for ages 5 and under is available for both our 5:00 and 7:30 pm services on Christmas Eve.

On Sunday, December 25th we will have childcare available for those 5 and under at our ONE 11 am service. We will not have Sunday School and families are encouraged to worship the newborn King together!

It will be the same schedule as Christmas for New Years Day morning.

If you have questions, please email

Have a blessed advent and holiday season!

Reverse Advent Mission Project

  • The next two weeks we will be promoting our Children’s Ministry Advent Mission Project – “Reverse Advent” to benefit the NEW 1960 Hope Center for the Homeless and Reynolds Elementary. See the list below for the items that we are collecting.
  • Collect 24 items on the list from Dec. 1-24th. Place them in a box or basket…one item each day. It can be 24 of the same thing or a mix of things. There are 24 items on the list if you want to do one of each needed item.
  • Teach your kids that the season of Advent is to prepare our hearts for the birth of Jesus, who was “God With Us”, and the BEST gift we could receive. Instead of focusing on Christmas as a time of receiving, we want to teach our children to focus on Advent as a season of GIVING and remember the REAL reason for the Christmas season. Giving one item per day as we count down the days to Christmas, reminds us to share what we have with others.
  • You do not have to spend money on this project. You can give things you already have at home, even if it’s only 24 pennies.
  • Bring all the items you collect to Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services and place your box/bags of items by the sign in the Narthex. Or if you will be out of town, you can bring them to the church early, or by Jan. 1st. All items collected will be donated to the 1960 Hope Center for the Homeless or Reynolds Elementary.

Consecration Sunday

We want to be sure all our parents know the plans for this week as we celebrate the blessings we have been given, and give back to God through sharing what we have with the ministry of the church to our community. On Consecration Sunday we will have ONE service at 11am. During the service we will have childcare for those under age 3, and will offer preschool Sunday School for those age 3-5 who have not started Kindergarten in the Yellow room. We encourage all children Kindergarten and older to worship with their families and enjoy the activities in the green bags found outside the Sanctuary. Before the service, there will be a brunch catered by "The Corner Bakery" (YUM!) beginning at 9:45 and you are encouraged to enjoy all the yummy choices together as a family. Childcare for children 3 and under will be available beginning at 9:30am. If you have any questions about what we offer in Kid's Ministry here at Northwoods, please email

Blessing of the Backpacks!

This Sunday ALL children 5th grade and younger should bring their backpacks to Sunday School at 9:30 for a tradition we like to call "Blessing of the Backpacks". There will be fun, an awesome lesson, and a "parade" of backpacks at the end of the 9:30 service, followed by a lite breakfast for the kiddos. All kids age 3-5, including those entering Kindergarten should sign in at the Yellow room, and Kindergarteners will be "promoted" during Sunday School.  All Elementary age 1st through 5th grade should sign in at door 236 of Grace Place as usual. Pick up for EVERYONE will be in Grace Place. Parents please be prompt in picking up your children as we will ask them to stay seated at the breakfast until you arrive. This is a GREAT Sunday to invite a family to join us as we celebrate the kick off of a new school year!

Fall Info

Here are a few things to make note of this Fall:

  • ALL children ages 3 to entering 5th grade should plan to bring their backpacks to Sunday School on Sunday, August 21st for the "Blessing of the Backpacks". We will make a gift for our teachers, have a blessing over our backpacks, and enjoy a yummy breakfast.
  • Students entering 6th grade this fall have already been promoted and should check the Northwoods Youth page for info on how to get connected on Sunday mornings and on Wednesday nights.
  • Children ages 3-5 that are not entering Kindergarten will remain in the Yellow Room for Sunday School this fall.
  • Students entering Kindergarten will promote from the Preschool Yellow Room to Elementary Sunday School on Sunday, August 21st during our Blessing of the Backpacks Celebration. Check in at the Yellow room and pick up in Grace Place during the 9:30 Sunday School hour. All Sundays after that, you will check-in and pick up at the welcome table outside Grace Place at room 236 in the preschool hallway.
  • All students entering 1st - 5th grade this fall will continue to check-in and pick up at the Welcome table outside Grace Place at room 236 in the preschool hallway.
  • All Elementary and Preschool families are encouraged to join us for Family Fellowship in Grace Place each Sunday from 10:30 to 11am, to meet other families. If you would like to sign-up to help bring snacks one week, please check out our "sign up genius" link on this page.

THIRD GRADE BIBLES will be presented to all 3rd graders and ANY 4th and 5th graders that are new to our church on Sunday, September 18th at the 9:30 service. Please confirm with names of any students that should receive a Bible.
